Precious Turkey Feathers

Since we are still in Georgia, we came up with a way to feel connected with our family this Thanksgiving. The kids and I worked hard on this new tradition and we are happy to have Mr. Turkey nearly complete before Thanksgiving.

We drew and cut out over 20 feathers, added a little note explaining that we wanted each family to add why they were thankful this Thanksgiving and mail it back in the stamped envelope included. We sent them to family members back in Texas. The kids put the stamps on and took them to the post office.


Then we created "Mr. Turkey" whom we intend to keep year after year and continue this tradition.



Now...if all would have gone as planned, we would have gotten all the glorious feathers back a week before turkey day. But...the RV park that we are staying in gave us the incorrect mailing address and we only got a few feathers back ONLY because I was there to catch the mail lady and explained the situation. So, we sent an email to the fam explaining what happened and got them to email their responses and we copied them to the feathers. Since the email, the mail people got our address sorted out and we have gotten a few other original feathers in. We are still missing responses from some, but for the most part we have a very feathered turkey.

This project has been so much fun and opened the children's eyes to the many things that all of us have to be thankful for. One stands out that Jessica questioned and that was, "why is everyone saying they are thankful for their health?" I just love her innocence and I thank God every. single. day. that He has blessed the both of them with their health. It is so easily taken for granted.
